The Oscar’s voting body is a prestigious honor in the cinema world and while the list is determined and dominated by actor and filmmakers from United States , it has representation from all over the world including six names from India too this time which includes filmmaker and composer Vishal Bhardwaj.


Oscars Academy of Motion Pictures invites 529 new members. 


The Academy has sent out invited to over 500 people who have been associated with cinema. If all new members accept the invitation, the film academy will have 11,319 with voting members around 10,338. This is almost the double of the Academy members from last ten years ago.


Vishal Bhardwaj is one of the most high-profile names invited from India this year. The filmmaker composer has been listed in the top list of composters invited this year. Alongside him, the film editors Deepa Bhatia and A Sreekar Prasad have also been invited.




A Sreekar is best known for his films such as Talvar, Shershaah, Saathiya and Sky Force and has over 40 years career and has been best known in the West as the editor of the Oscar winning RRR. Deepa Bhatia, meanwhile has worked on films like Kai Po Che, Taare Zameen Par, Rock On and Kedarnath.


Costume designer Eka Lakhani who is best known for her work on Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani has also been invited. The Mumbai based designer has also worked in films like Queen , Sanju.


Casting Director Dilip Shankar who worked for Oscar bound Last film show is among the invitees too.
