Set in Gujarat, Ishaan, played by Sushant Singh Rajput is an ex-cricketer and decides to start his own cricket coaching and sports shop for budding cricketers along with his friends Omi, played by Amit Sadh and Govind, played by Rajkummar Rao. After working hard and a lot of struggle they finally succeed in making the academy popular and start making some profit. Later Ishaan asks Govind, who is good in math to help his sister Vidya, played by Amrita Puri in her studies since her exams are coming up. Govind and Vidya eventually fall in love and start dating. Ishaan comes to know of this and warns him of the consequences.
Meanwhile Govind who is very ambitious and excited about their newly opened sports business decides to expand it by opening a shop in upcoming mall that is being constructed. Omi’s uncle provides the financial aid and they go to seal the deal. Calamity strikes when a horrific earthquake hits Gujarat and the mall’s building is destroyed. The friends land in a huge debt and Omi is forced to work with his uncle to make up for the loss. Ishaan meanwhile starts training a Muslim boy who has great potential in cricket.
Omi’s parents go on a train to Ayodhya to the Ram Temple, but on returning they are killed as a result of the Godhra train massacre. Omi swears revenge. Ishaan and Govind hide in Ali’s house as the communal tension rises as Omi’s uncle Bittu is killing Muslims around. Ali’s father and Bittu have a fight where he stabs Bittu and runs. Omi meanwhile comes in with a gun to kill Ali. He aims at Ali and shoots but Ishaan blocks it and takes the bullet and dies.
The movie is directed by Abhishek Kapoor and produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Siddharth Roy Kapur. The music is composed by Amit Trivedi.
