Jai is a theatre actor who falls in love with Janki, who is the daughter of a wealthy man. Their marriage is opposed by her father but they go against everyone’s wishes and marry. They move into their new house and are in love and bliss until things start to deteriorate in their marriage. Their egos and temper flies every now and then. Soon Janki is pregnant and gives birth to a baby girl named Bharti. Their marriage crumbles and Janki moves out of the house. Jai who loves his daughter a lot begs to see his daughter but Janki’s father objects.
Jai thus hatches another plan to enter Janki’s house and be with his daughter. He then transforms into a lady named Chachi and starts working for the family as Bharti’s nanny. Soon Bharti recognizes her father and is happy to be close to him. Soon Janki realizes that Chachi is Jai, who has fooled everyone and gained everyone’s trust. They eventually decide to reconcile for the sake of their daughter. The movie is directed by Kamal Hasan and produced by Kamal Hasan and Chandra Hasan. The music is composed by Vishal Bhardwaj and the lyrics are written by Gulzar. The story and screenplay is written by Kamal Haasan.
