Mahaan is a 1983 action drama film directed by S. Ramanathan and produced by Satyanarayana The film stars Amitabh Bachchan in triple roles along with his heroines, Waheeda Rehman, Parveen Babi and Zeenat Aman.  Starring in the film are also Ashok Kumar, Amjad Khan, Kader Khan , Aruna Irani , Sujit Kumar, and Shakti Kapoor.

The concept of ‘Triple Role’ was not common and Amitabh Bachchan has essayed the three roles very differently and proves his versatility as one of the finest actors of Indian Cinema

Vikram Singh(Amjad Khan) is convicted for possession of drugs but he claims he was framed by his business associate named Rajan(Sujit Kumar). After the release from his jail sentence, he kills Rajan and he puts the blame on his former lawyer Amit(Amitabh Bachchan). Amit is on the run to avoid the sentence of a crime that he is not done, while his pregnant wife Janki (Waheda Rehman) gives birth to twin boys, Guru and Shankar (Both essayed by Amitabh Bachchan) . Unfortunately one of their sons is kidnapped by a couple .  With husband Amit missing and her one of her sons being kidnapped, the devastated Janki moves in life on her own to raise Shankar. Amit thinks his wife is dead so starts living his life in the name of Rana Ranveer along with his adopted daughter (Parveen Babi). Shankar (Amitabh Bachchan) grows up to be a police inspector while Guru( Amitabh twin) becomes a theatre actor. His love life is Rita (Zeenat Aman). Unaware they have twin siblings, the film ends with both of them coming face to face and reunite as one family again.
