A powerful sports drama that is inspired by the historic 1952 India-Pakistan Test Cricket Series is being set to headline in another cinematic venture by Aamir Khan.  The lagaan director Ashutosh Gowariker will be reuniting with Aamir Khan after celebrating Lagaan’s 25th anniversary.   Aamir Khan is said to be gearing up for this new venture, ‘Lalkaara’ that promises an emotional balance of history, sports and human relationships. 


Lalkaara is not a biographical film but it will draw inspiration from the game of cricket with its most iconic rivalries while it will explore a deeper theme of friendship, partition, nationalism and will surface with the emotional complexities that has been there between the two neighbouring nations. 


About Lalkaara  


The screenplay for Lalkaara is penned by the much-acclaimed writers and Piyush Gupta and Neeraj Singh.  Both known for Dangal and Nil Battey Sannata respectively. The collaboration between the two is expected to deliver a gripping and emotionally charged narrative. 


The film is jointly being produced by Excel Entertainment headed by Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani alongside Rajkumar Hirani Films.  Rajkumar Hirani while he serves as a producer, Ashutosh Gowariker will direct the film.  Aamir Khan will share the successful creative history with Farhan Akhtar and Rajkumar Hirani, making the collaboration more significant. 


Lalkaara was interesting planned initially under Fox Star Studios, with Rajkumar Hirani who was earlier considered to direct the project.    Reports also suggest Shah Rukh Khan was also considered for the role of the lead actor during its early development.  


Meanwhile Aamir Khan has committed to Rajkumar Hirani for his upcoming 3 Idiots sequel.  While the Lalkaara’s script is already complete, the superstar chose to begin the work on this highly anticipated and passionately charged up Sports Drama.
