Rakesh Roshan was honoured at the International Film Festival in 2006 in Panaji for his contribution in the mainstream cinema. The same year Rakesh Roshan was honoured at the Global Indian Film Awards (GIFA) for his outstanding contribution to the Indian Cinema for the past 35 years.

Popularly known as the Director of some of the super hit films , Krrish (Film series) , Koi Mil Gaya, Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai and better known as the superstar Hrithik Roshan’s father.

A film actor, Director, Producer, Screen writer and an Editor of the Bollywood Cinema, Rakesh Roshan is a known name and well known in the film industry. Rakesh Roshan started his film career with his debut in the film Ghar Ghar Ki Kahani in 1970 with Balraj Sahni and Nirupa Roy in a supporting role. He mostly acted in women oriented films with films like Paraya Dhan, with Hema Malini, Aankh Micholi with Bharati, Khubsoorat with Rekha , KaamChor with Jaya Prada. He did very few roles as solo hero which were Aankhon Aankhon Mein with Rakhee, Nafrat with Yogita Bali, Ek Kunwari Ek Kunwara with Leena Chandavarkar and Hamari Bahu Alka with Bindiya Goswami. Shubh Kaamna with Rati Agnihotri . He did films with Sanjeev Kumar produced by his father In law J.Om Prakash in the lead in the film Aakraman and a supporting role with Rajesh Khanna in the film Aakhir Kyon. Rakesh Roshan is remembered for his films in Man Mandir with Sanjeev Kumar, a memorable role of teen romance and college story line, Khel Khel Mein with Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh .The film was super hit for the songs and the locations as well as his cameo role which was loved by the audience and his fans. Following success of this film he went on to do many more films like Bullet in 1976, with Devanand, Hatyara with Vinod Khanna and Dhongee with Randhir Kapoor, Khandaan with Jeetendra, Neeyat with Shashi Kapoor . Thus he was seen with almost every super star and actor of his era sharing the screen persona with each of his co-stars. The three blockbuster films that he was a supporting actor were in Dhanwan 1981 film, Awaaz and Aakhir Kyon. The multi star cast films were successful besides his films like Devata, Shriman Shrimati and Hathkadi all of which had Sanjeev Kumar in the lead role. His few films in the last leg of his career as a film actor were for the films Jaag Utha Insan, Ek Aur Sikander, Dil Aur Deewar, Khatta Meetha in 1978, Unees- Bees in 1980 and Maqaar in 1986. Except for Khatta Meetha which did fairly good at the Box office most of his films were box office flops. Rakesh Roshan then went on to set up his own production company called the Filmkraft in 1980 and his first film as a Producer was for the film Aap Ke Deewane in 1980 which was a box office flop. His next film was Kaamchor which was produced by him in which he has also acted which was a success and the film attributed to the music as well as the star cast . He tried his stint as a hero in the main lead once again for the film Shubh Kaamna directed by K. Vishwanath which was a hit, followed by Bhagwan Dada in 1986 wherein he launched himself in the lead role directed by J. Om Prakash co-starring with the superstar Rajinikanth . the film flopped and thereafter he continued to be the actor for supporting roles in the films Bahurani which was a women oriented film with Rekha directed by Manik Chatterjee, the film Maqaar, Ek Aur Sikander which were all successful films. Rakesh Roshan started his journey in the Bollywood in the early 1970’s till 1989 as an actor. He was mostly seen in a supporting actor’s role in big budget films . Later he achieved fame and success as the film director since 1987. He made his directorial debut for the film Khudgarz in 1987 and went on to direct the box office successful film Khoon Bhari Maang in 1988 in which he also has a cameo role with Rekha. He directed films like Kishen Kanhaiya in 1990, Karan Arjun in 1995 . However these films didn’t do too well and were flop films. During the period 1990 to 1999 he was rarely seen on the screen and did very few films mostly as guest appearance and he focused on direction. He launched his son’s career as an actor with the film Kaho Naa Pyaar Hai in 2000. The film went on to be a superhit at the highest grossing film of 2000 and entered the Limca Book of Records for the most number of awards won by the Bollywood film. He directed his son Hrithik once again for the 2003 science fiction film Koi… Mil Gaya which fetched the film and him many awards and its sequel of the superhero film Krrish 2006 which were very successful at the box office. In 2008 , Rakesh Roshan produced the film Krazzy 4 and in 2010 he released the Bollywood film with stars from the Hollywood as well as Hrithik Roshan for the film Kites. The film was also in another version released internationally known as Brett Ratner presents Kites- The Remix. .. The film toned down with the amount of musical numbers in the film. His last production was Kaabil in the year 2017.
