Poonam Jhawer

An Indian model and a Bollywood film actress and a producer. Poonam is known for her films like OMG: Oh My God released in 2012 in which she shared the screen space with Akshay Kumar, Paresh Rawal, Mahesh Manjrekar and Mithun Chakraborty in the Akshay Kumar-produced film and the banner of Playtime Creations. 

In Mohra in 1994 and Aanch in 2002.  Poonam had starred in the South Indian film, alongside Shahid Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha, Sonu Sood, and Prabu Deva directed musical film R.Rajkumar. 

She also starred in a Haryanvi movie titled, Muthbhed,  starring Mukesh Tiwari and Sanjay Sharma. The film was produced by Kumar Mangat and Suraj Bhardwaj who has also directed the film. 

After doing a couple of modelling assignments, ad films and catalogues,  she soon worked as a singer, actress, and Bollywood filmmaker.   She started her career with her debut in the blockbuster film Mohra opposite Suniel Shetty. The film was multicast starring Akshay Kumar, Raveena Tandon, Naseeruddin Shah and Paresh Rawal. She is remembered for the fame, the song, ‘Na Kajre Ki Dhaar’ from the film in which she essayed the role of Suniel Shetty. 

Apart from the film Mohra, Poonam worked in a few successful South Indian films with actors like Mamutti.     Her Jiyala film was a musical hit under the banner of Wajeda Films, produced by Ashfaque Ahmed Khan and directed by Tipu Khan with music composed by Altamash Khan for the song ‘ Kal Chaudhvi Ki Raat Thi’  was sung by Kumar Sanu and went on to be a super hit along with other songs in the film.  

Poonam Jhawer also acted in Bappi Lahiri’s movie, ‘ Deewana Hoon Main Tera’ and ‘The Black and White Fact’. 

Poonam Jhawer has won 2 very prestigious awards. ABSCA was happy to announce the Atal National Award to Poonam Jhawer. 

She co-produced films like Aanch which was based on the UP background. The film starring Nana Patekar, Paresh Rawal and Ayesha Jhulka and Suchindra Bali, son of yesteryear actress Vyjanthimala, did his debut in the film.  She made her debut as the youngest producer with this film.  

The Na Kajre Ki Dhar girl, from the film Mohra who essayed the role of Priya Agnihotri in the film. She also essayed the Sadhvi Gopi Maiya in the film OMG After which, the pretty actress has been away from the film industry.  It’s been over 30 years since the release of the film Mohra.

She had commenced her career in music with the song,  ‘ Sum Meri Rani as a singer for the song with Nana Patekar in the film Aanch released in 2003. The lyrics were written by her mother, Poojashree and Poonam sang along with Nana Patekar. 

Poonam Jhawer has not only produced Hindi films but has also produced a Marathi film titled ‘Sansarchi Maya’ which was released all over Maharashtra. She was a line producer for another Marathi film titled Ek Lagnachi Gosht, which was awarded the Lakshabhedi Award. She then had produced the Marathi film, ‘Sakharam Tukaram which will soon go on the floor.

Besides film production, her event company also do a lot of corporate and social events and the new venture is Dream Catcher, which is in the planning stages. They are into All India Talent Hunt and also into Web Films and Series.  The company is a part of the Swadeshi event call.

Poonam Jhawer to date has done 9 music videos, 3 music albums. Her professional title is Poo4u which is released by the music company,  House of Music.   The album is said to have super hit remix songs which has songs like Hai Sharmaun and Laila Main Laila which was successful on leading television channels. 

Her Take Me Home Baby album was released by T-Series, followed by Tauba Tauba and Chorni Re Chorni were both mega successful.   Poo Kya Jalwa was later an album released by Venus with the super hit video of Jalwa. 

Poonam Jhawer has been advocating for social causes beyond her contribution to the entertainment segment. She works particularly for women’s empowerment and is vocal about societal issues, lending active support to movements such as Anna Hazare’s Jan Lokpal Campaign that reinforces the commitment she has towards social change. 

She is popular across social media platforms such as Instagram, where she posts her live videos and fan engagement videos that highlight her fitness regime, fashion and her outlook towards life that is an inspiration to many. 

Poonam Jhawer has been the glamorous icon and had for few years stayed away from lime limelight but she now continues to shine once again.   She is all set to essay impactful roles on OTT platforms, proving to her audience and fans that she continues to remain evergreen in the world of entertainment.
