Film debut and rise to prominence ( 2000-2002) Shamita Shetty made her film debut with Yash Raj film’s classic coming of age romantic drama Mohabbatein. The ensemble romantic saga helmed by Adity Chopra hada a jaw dropping star cast consisting of ShahRukh Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Aiswarya Rai, Jimmy Sheirgill and many more in the lead. The movie which narrated the story of love blossoming among three students with the entry of a inspiring teacher saw Shamita Shetty pairing opposite Uday Chopra and her flamboyant portrayal of the girl next door was well received at the time with the movie going on to be a blockbuster hit with rave reviews. She ticked all the right boxes and made a noteworthy debut in the magnum opus flick. She won the Best Female Debut Award at the IIFA Awards which she shared with her co-actresses Kim Sharma and Preeti Jhangian i. However despite a dream like debut she was then mainly called up for special appearances in song numbers like “Chori Pe Chori” from the Vivek Oberoi starrer Saathiya and in Uday Chopra’s Mere Yaar Ki Shaadi Hai in the song “ Sharara Sharara”, both in the year 2002. In the meantime she made her Tamil cinema debut the same year through the action thriller flick Raajjiyam opposite actor Vijaykanth. She then took a detour to Telugu cinema with Piliste Palakutha which too failed to create much fuzz. Array of other releases (2004-2007) Shamita Shetty soon returned to Bollywood with back to back let-down flicks like Jimmy Shergill’s action drama Agnipankh , The romantic thriller Fareb which incidentally had her pairing for the very first time with her sister Shilpa Shetty along with Manoj Bajpayee also donning a key part. However she resurfaced in the year 2005 with Mohit Suri’s suspense thriller flick Zeher which saw her pairing with Emraan Hashmi and Udita Goswami in the front lead. The Mahesh Bahtt production had her playing a special force police officer whose professional successes lead her divorced husband to many mishaps. She was seen in a never before seen avatar playing a seasoned cop to good effect and made news of her return to Bollywood. The movie was a critical hit at the time and paved way for her comeback. Zeher also panned out to be Shetty’s very first solo hit in Bollywood. The same year she played among the lead in the ensemble musical romantic flick Bewafaa along with Akshay Kumar, Anil Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor in the lead. The highly acclaimed movie had a flamboyant part in store for her and she was seen opposite Manoj Bajpayee. She was then spotted playing the lead lady in Sanjay Dutt’s romantic film Mohabbat Ho Gayi Hai Tumse, Ajay Devgn’s ensemble action thriller Cash all of which had nothing substantial in it for her. After yet another special appearance in the song “ Heyy Babyy” from the movie Heyy Babyy and in Hari Puttar: A Comedy of Terrors in the year 2007. Shamita Shetty’s latest film outing was opposite R Madhavan and Sadha in the yet to be released Tamil horror flick Naan Aval Adhu which was shot in the year 2008. She took a break from film acting due to failure to find successes.
