Biography
Shefali’s debut was in a minor role in the film ‘Rangeela’ (1995), on television with ‘Kabhie Kabhie’. Her role in Satya was critically acclaimed. She has starred in films opposite Amitabh Bachchan as his wife in the film ‘Waqt’ The race against time, ‘Monsoon Wedding ‘as Ria Verma, in 2008 she acted as Anil Kapoor’s wife in ‘Black & White, Rituparno Ghosh film ‘The Last Lear’. Shefali has done a play opposite Kiran Karmarkar in 2010 titled ‘Dhyanmani- Bas itna a khwab ‘. She has acted in about 17 films & 10 television serials.
Shefali has acted in web series based on the Delhi gang rape in 2012 as DCP directed by Richie Mehta, was a seven part series which depicted what women go through on a daily basis. Her tv serial ‘Hasratein’ was based on a Marathi novel ‘Adhantari’. In ‘Satya ‘ ( Bhikkhu Mhatre’s wife ,Gandhi – My Father (Kasturba), The Last Lear(Vandana), Black & White (a vocal social activist), ‘Juice’ as Manju Singh a housewife, In ‘Once Again’ she has acted well but there were mixed responses. Her first television serial was ‘Banegi Apni Baat” and then ‘Aarohan’ which was a 13-episode serial in 1997 where she played cadet Nivedita, was a commercial success for her. Shefali has acted in “Savdhan India’. Her film “Brothers’ which is a Karan Malhotra directed film opposite Jackie Shroff playing an emotional thread between Akshay Kumar & Sidharth Malhotra was released on the 14th of August 2015.In ‘Lakshmi’ she has acted as a dirty talking Madam of a brothel which shocked the public. Shefali was offered a role in the film ‘Three Stories’ which was a Ritesh Sadhwani -Farhan Akhtar’s production but had to back out as her children were moving to the US. ‘Dil Dhadakne Do’ was a hit film where Priyanka Chopra , Anil Kapoor, Ranveer Singh & Anushka Sharma act along with Shefali which was so well received.

Shefali has won about 7 awards in the following categories. Best supporting actress for Satya (1999), Filmfare Critics award for best actress (1999), National film award (best supporting actress, The Last Lear (2007),Tokyo International Festival (best actress , 2007), Stardust Award for supporting role ‘ Dil Dhadakne Do’(2015), Screen Award for Best Ensemble cast, 2015),Filmfare short film ‘Juice’ for best female actress. Shefali has been nominated for a few films too.
