Alaap is a 1977 film produced by Hrishikesh Mukherjee and N.C. Sippy and is produced by Hrishikesh Mukherjee.  The film starring Amitabh Bachchan, Rekha, Asrani, Farida Jalal , Om Puri and Manmohan. The music for this film is by Jaidev.

The film is about widower Advocate Triloki Prasad(Om Prakash) who lives a very wealthy lifestyle in a small town and has two sons.

A widowed lawyer wants his wayward son Alok to join his law firm, but the son is not interested in law or joining his father’s business. His elder son Ashok is married . His second son Alok (Amitabh Bachchan) whom he wants to also settle, is more interested in spending time in the slums. The hurt ego of his father who is not able to bring his son under his control tries various ways and means to get him to return home. Alok buys himself a horse cart for a living and spends time with a courtesan.  Rekha as the beautiful Sarju Bai the courtesan that Alok visits every day much against the wishes of his family. The actions by his father continue to create wider misunderstanding between the father and son. How does it resolve is the film
