Kalikkalam tells the tale of a burglar who goes under numerous names depending on where he is. He is a good man and helps the underprivileged and orphans with the stolen money. He happens to witness a murder that a police officer named Shekharan is wrongly accused of during one of his burglaries. He aids Shekharan in establishing his innocence. He had to acknowledge his wrongdoing for this and turn himself up to the authorities. A romance between Mammootty's character and Annie, a young Christian girl, is depicted in the parallel. It was a Blockbuster when it was released
