Ira has got trained in Shakespearean, Meissner and Chekhov techniques, Ira has also participated in intense workshops such as Stell Adler Studio of Acting. She has conducted summer workshops at Adishakti. 

Ira Dubey grew up in a theatre environment under the guidance of her mother who is a noted theatre personality as well as an actress in Hindi films.

She also did an independent film Shehjar directed by Nikhil Allug in which she has a lead role. 

In 2007 she did her debut in Bollywood film Marigold, a romantic comedy. 

In 2009 she played the role of Archana Kapoor in The President is Coming a satirical mockumentary.

In 2010, she was recognized for the role of Pinky Bose, the stylish friend of Sonam Kapoor in the film Aisha. 

In 2015, Ira Dubey portrayed Ananya Saikia a role for which she won the Best Actress at the 3rd Indian Cine International Film Festival. In the same year she played the role of Nimmy in Dilliwaali Zaalim Girlfriend.

In 2016, Ira Dubey played Nora in A Doll’s House. She had completed shooting for two feature films of Dharma Productions and Red Chillis Entertainment. She essayed the role of Fatima also known as Fatty in the film and is a close friend of the lead actress Kaira essayed by Alia Bhatt. The film is directed by Gauri Shinde starring alongside Shah Rukh Khan and Alia Bhatt.

In 2016, she starred in M Cream as Jay a film on a road trip which won her international accolades. 

In 2017 to 2019, Ira played the lead role of Mariyam in an independent film.

Ira then worked in another short film in 2019 called, Bin Bulaaye for which she got nominated for Filmfare Best Actress. 

She acted in a short film The Daughter co-starring Naseeruddin Shah which is also produced by her in 2022.

She has worked in films like Freedom at Midnight released in 2024-2026 portraying the role of Fatima Jinnah in this historical series.

Ira Dubey has worked in Films Theatres and has also acted in Television and Web Series.

Ira had hosted the Celebrity Talk Show on Zee TV called A Table for Two. There after she appeared as Reema in Parchahayee: Ghost Stories by Ruskin Bond in 2019. And in the Chicks on Flicks, she hosted 108 episodes as a film critic on Sony Pix. 

Between 2021 to 2023, Ira starred as Akansha Shastri in Potluck that earned her a Filmfare Best Supporting Actress nomination in 2022. 

In 2023, Ira appeared in Scoop an acclaimed Netflix Series, in which he essayed the role of Anita Mohan. 

She appeared in Illegal – Justice, Out of Order in 2024 as Atisha Mevani Rathore in the Web Series, Season 3.

In the same year, Ira had appeared as Anu Store Manager in the Waack Girls.

Ira has had a prolific career in the theatre and often worked with her mother’s Prime time Theatre Company. Her most notable plays are 9 Parts of Desire, a highly acclaimed one-woman show.
