Indian Army Major Ranvir, played by Amitabh Bachchan is captured by 30 of his colleagues in Pakistan as prisoners of war for 33 years. They are kept in the most horrific conditions. Ranvir’s many attempts to escape fail, leading him to be beaten and tortured further by the Pakistani jail officials. One of the men manages to escape and sends a letter through Jabbar, played by Akhilendra Mishra to Ranvir’s wife, played by Tanuja and son Gaurav, played by Akshaye Khanna. They then send an appeal to the General to free Ranvir and other POW but he is helpless. Finally, not able to take the pain and despair, Gaurav sets out to find his father himself.

 

He comes to know that his father has been moved to a new prison which is run under the tyranny of the ruthless Sohail, played by Kay Kay Menon. Ravir and the other prisoners try to escape once more. One of the prisoners sacrifices his life by getting electrocuted on the wire fence while the others pass by only to get killed after stepping on landmines. Khan, played by Sanjay Dutt manages to evade the landmines and escapes. Gaurav takes him to safety. They then get the plan for the water main for the other prisoners escape by infiltrating the Pakistani army. Khan gets arrested again and Sohail suspects he is back for a reason. He passes on the message that Gaurav is here and the plan for escape. The men are now motivated by this news.

 

With great struggle and bravery the men manage to escape and thus are reinstated into the Indian Army with pride. The movie is written and directed by Milan Luthria and produced by Gaurang Doshi. The music is composed by Aadesh Shrivastava and the cinematography is by Nirmal Jani.
