Nimrat Kaur

father was abducted and killed by Kashmiri Terrorists. Thereafter, her family moved to Delhi-suburb, Noida, where she grew up and attended Delhi Public School, Noida. Later, she studied at Shri Ram College of Commerce, Delhi University and obtained a B.Com Hons in commerce.

Nimrat was launched in a two-part music video called ‘Tera Mera Pyar’, a song by Kumar Sanu and ‘ Yeh Kya Hua’ was by Shreya Ghoshal in 2004.  These videos were directed, written and edited by Apurva Asrani. She did many television advertisements.  She had appeared in a Dairy Milk Silk commercial in 2013.

Kaur had made her debut in films with a small role in the English film, One Night with the King in the year 2006. The film was shot in Rajasthan.

Nimrat Kaur appeared in Hindi films and also on American television. She had begun her career as a print model and went on to act in theatres.   After her brief stint in the theatre, she starred in Anurag Kashyap’s film, her debut with ‘Peddlers’, released in 2012. Thereafter, Nimrat got her break in a role in the much critically acclaimed film ‘The Lunchbox’ in 2014.  She received wider attention as the co-lead in the film, which was aired at the Cannes Film Festival.  This was her second instalment at Cannes. Nimrat Kaur had portrayed as a lonely wife who begins a friendship with a complete stranger through letters in a tiffin carrier mistakenly delivered by the dabbawalla to the stranger essayed by Irrfan Khan.  Her performance was considered natural, and her presence as the wife was radiant.

In 2015, Nimrat Kaur played a recurring role in the film as Tasneem Quraishi, as an Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) Agent in the fourth Season of the American television series called Homeland.  She later reprised in the same role in the eighth season.

Nimrat Kaur co-starred with Akshay Kumar in the War thriller Airlift. The film was based on the civil operation of the evacuation of Indians based in Kuwait during the Iraq-Kuwait war.  The film was released on 22nd January 2016.  The film was very successful, and her role as Akshay Kumar’s wife delivered her faith in her husband’s actions.  

Kaur has starred as Rebecca Yedlin in the second season of the American mystery Series called ‘Wayward Pines’ in 2016 and in another Indian drama series, School of Lies, in 2023.

In 2017, Nimrat Kaur starred in the Hindi Web series, The Test Case, as Captain Shikha Sharma, which garnered her positive response.   She returned to be a part of the eighth and final season of Homeland, a series that was regularly aired in February 2020.

After a year's break, Nimrat Kaur co-starred in the Netflix film ‘Dasvi’ opposite Abhishek Bachchan, in the film, which showed her in a powerful role. She is said to have lit up the screen with her presence and the film which had humor too, both Abhishek and Nimrat made and excellent lead pair.

Nimrat portrayed the role of Yanna Seldon in the 2023 second season of the science fiction series called Foundation.  She also played the role of school counsellor in the web series School of Lies in the same year.  She then essayed the role of an inspector in ‘Sajini Shinde Ka Viral Video’.  Lastly, she appeared as Akshay Kumar’s wife in ‘Sky Force’.

Sky Force is an action-drama film, which was released on 24th January 2025, centred around India’s first airstrike at the Sargodha Airbase during the Indo-Pakistan Air War in 1965.  Nimrat starred alongside Akshay Kumar, Sara Ali Khan and debutant Veer Pahariya. The Sky Force was directed by Abhishek Anil Kapur and Sandeep Kewlani and was produced by Maddock Films and Jio Studios.
