The arrest came after the Goa Forward Party had lodged a complaint and filed an FIR against the actress stating to the media that Pandey’s video was an assault on the women of Goa.On 18th January 2022, Poonam was given protection from the arrest by the Supreme Court of India after she was being accused of involvement in one of the major porn films racketing scandal that had involved many Bollywood stars. The Bombay High Court had rejected the anticipatory bail plea which had forced Poonam Pandey to approach the Supreme Court. She was named along with actor Sherlyn Chopra as an accused FIR registered on both of them by the Mumbai Cyber Crime Cell under several sections of the Indian Penal Code for the Indecent Representation of Women’s Prevention Act and the Information Technology Act. The case however, alleged the creators and the distribution of the sexually explicit content.Poonam began her career as a model in 2010 and became one of the top nine contestants of the Glad rags Manhunt and Mega model Contest. She had appeared on the cover page of the fashion magazine as well.Poonam had become very popular through her social media accounts including Twitter where she started posting semi nude photos revealing in most of them to draw attention of significant media.Pandey did not stop there. She rose to media’s spotlight after she promised to strip for the Indian National Cricket Team if it won the 2011 Cricket World Cup. India indeed had won the World cup that year and Pandey did not fulfil her promise due to the public disapproval but later she claimed the Board of Control for Cricket in India had denied her the permission. She still went ahead and uploaded a video on her mobile app in which she is seen stripping naked at the Wankhede Stadium in the dark night.In 2012, Pandey posed Nude after Kolkata Knight Riders won the Indian Premier League, she launched a mobile application named Pandey App which featured adult oriented content which was within an hour of its release, Google removed the app from the Play Store. It was cited as violation of content policy. The removal of app led her to get into discussion, controversies, debates regarding freedom of expressions on digital platforms.Pandey has been more than many ways in news for the wrong reasons. She once uploaded a sex tape with her boyfriend on the Instagram which was later deleted.Poonam Pandey posted an official Instagram that Pandey had died of cervical cancer on 1st of February 2024 at the age of 22. The next day it was revealed it was a publicity stunt to raise awareness about the disease which had received a widespread criticism that Pandey had to send a written apology after the All-India Cine Workers Association demanded that Mumbai Police Commissioner has to file an FIR against her for this act.
