He earned his Bachelor’s degree in Arts in Bhopal while he also joined the famous Bharat Bhavan Cultural Centre. He later graduated from the National School of Drama (NSD) in Delhi.

Kumud Mishra has always maintained a high prolific screen presence with his major mainstream projects in the gritty regional dramas.

He made his television debut as Eknath, a trade union leader in the popular 1995 Doordarshan drama called Swabhimaan. Thereafter he made his cinematic debut in Shyam Benegal’s Sardari Begum in 1996 and later appeared in the film 1971 released in 2017 and in the film That Girl in Yellow Boots in 2010.

Kumud’s breakthrough role came in 2011 as Khatana Bhai alongside Ranbir Kapoor in Imtiaz Ali’s musical blockbuster Rockstar. He featured in consecutive major hits like Raanjhanaa in 2013, in Airlift released in 2016, Sultan in the same year, M.S Dhoni:The Untold Story in 2016 and Tiger Zinda Hai in 2017.

Kumud Mishra had delivered power packed performances as Sub Inspector Kisan Jatav in Article 15 in 2019, the supportive father in Thappad in 2020 and as a lead circus artist in Ram Singh Charlie released in 2020. Kumud’s recent works include notable films and series such as Mission Majnu in 2023, Diplomat in 2025 and Assi in 2026.

Besides films , Kumud Mishra has remained a prominent fixture on Mumbai theatre circle for over 20 years. He has modelled much of his style under the guidance of legendary theatre icon Satyadev Dubey. Kumud has co-founded the theatrical group D for Drama.

Kumud is known for some of the most reputed films such as Dhabkaaro released in May 2026 a well-received Gujarati drama film. Assi in February 2026 directed by Anubhav Sinha , a courtroom intense social legal drama alongside Taapsee Pannu. In Vadh 2 released in February 2026 reprised of a hard-hitting crime thriller space which he shared with Sanjay Mishra. He played a crucial role of Advocate N. M. Sayyed in The Diplomat 2026, an action thriller featuring John Abhraham.

He acted as the character Ambika Prasad in the dark consecutive crime series Nishaanchi & Nishaanchi 2 in 2025 followed by a pivotal role as protagonist’s father in Mannu Kya Karegga in 2025.

He featured once again in the main stream Bollywood where he played the key supporting role in Mr. & Mrs. Mahi & Vedaa released 2024. He played a supporting role in Imtiaz Ali’s critically acclaimed musical biopic Amar Singh Chamkila in 2024.

His upcoming films are Abhi Toh Party Shuru Hui Hai directed by Anubhav Sinha on political satire and awaiting post production formal launch. He is slated to return the Yash Raj Films Spy Universe and reprise his popular character RAW official Rakesh Prasad Chaurasia in Tiger vs Pathan.
