Mahesh Manjrekar

Mahesh Manjrekar started his career in Bollywood as a film director, actor , writer and producer.   His career began in 1984 in Marathi film and he played his debut role in the film Aflatoon which helped him pave his future in the filmline. He had won an award as a producer for many plays like Dhyanimani, Doctor Tumhisudhdha, Gidhade, Akashmaat All the Best and Asecha.

 

As a film maker he started his journey with the award winning Marathi film Aai for which he won the Filmfare Award for the best director and he had also bagged the award by Screen Videocon .

He is remembered for his negative role in the Telugu film Okkadunnadu and in 2008 he got acclaimed for his role of a gangster Javed in the film Slumdog Millionaire.

Besides film direction, Manjrekar also has been an actor , writer and produced playback for the film Kaante.

 

Since then there has been no looking back for this talented Manjrekar.   He went on to direct around 24 films, produced 3 films,9 serials on TV and acted in 53 films until now. He was first seen on Doordarshan ‘s Marathi serial ‘Kshitij’ where he has played a Leprosy patient, got recognition after his role.

 

He has acted in a few episodes of C.I.D. His Marathi film ‘Mi Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy’ got a lot of acclaim.

His Marathi film debut was ‘Jeeva Sakha’, Meri Ishq Ki Kahani in Hindi (2011), Slumdog Millionaire in Hollywood (2006). He has sung for films like Kaante, City of Gold, and Ek Ankahee Kahani. His hobbies are Dancing and Writing. Mahesh has acted in Hindi, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Bengali films. His Theatre debut was a play ‘Aflatoon’ (19’84), as a scriptwriter was ‘Vaastav’ (1999),’Kurukshetra (2000), ‘Ehsas (2001), Pitaah (2002), ‘Hatyar’ (2000) ‘Viruddh’ (2005), and ‘Vaah! Life Ho to Aisi (2005).

He has made some albums with his singing such as ‘Kaante’& Padmashree Laloo Prasad. The names of his films have been Astitva, Vaastav, Viruddh etc.

His plays have been Dhyanimani, Doctor Tumhi Suddha, Gidhade, Akashmat, Al The Best and Asecha Amhi Sare. Two of his movies have flopped badly like Nidaan and Jis Desh Me Ganga Rehta Hai.

Mahesh Manjrekar’s upcoming films for the year 2018 are Setters and Saaho a film in Telugu.
