Biography
Kareena Kapoor walks out from her debut film Kaho Naa...Pyaar Hai When Kareena Kapoor was 19 years old and learning acting in Kishore Namit Kapoor’s class, at the same institute another star son Hrithik Roshan was studying. The two became friends and when Rakesh Roshan ( Hrithik Roshan’s father) decided to launch Hrithik with his film Kaho Naa...Pyaar Hai, he had cast Kareena Kapoor as the leading lady but after a few days of shooting Kareena Kapoor walked out from the film. Reason? Well, Kareena said, “There was no fight among us but I quit the film because I found more focus being paid on Hrithik Roshan. After all, his father was launching him hence he was oblivious to promoting him. Also, Hrithik had a power-packed double role. So everything was favouring Hrithik and I felt as if I was being sidelined. Hence I took the decision.” Kareena Kapoor made her debut with an unconventional film Refugee After abandoning Rakesh Roshan's typical commercial film Kaho Naa… Pyaar Hai, Kareena Kapoor made her debut with an unconventional film Refugee, opposite Abhishek Bachchan, who also made his career debut with the film. The film was directed by seasoned filmmaker J.P. Dutta, maker of the hit film Border. Kareena Kapoor regards the role as a landmark role as she had the opportunity to play a complex character of a Pakistani girl, who falls in love with a refugee. “I think it was a dream role for any newcomer because it was different and unlike a typical college girl falling in love with a boy. It was a role that artists got after nurturing their talent for five or six years. I was fortunate to get in my first film.” The film explored Kareena Kapoor’s talent as she fetched the Filmfare Best Debut Actress award. Kareena Kapoor got her first hit with Hrithik Roshan Though with Refugee Kareena Kapoor proved her acting potential but the film was a flop. To make life difficult, her second film Mujhe Kucch Kehna Hai opposite Tusshar Kapoor, though a commercial film failed. And what followed was a chain of flops like Subhash Ghai's Yaadein, Abbas-Mustan's Ajnabee and Shahrukh Khan’s Ashoka, She was written off as Jinx but thanks to Karan Johar’s Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham...opposite Hrithik Roshan, she was able to break jinx label and register her fist major hit.
